Black Stars head coach, Otto Addo, says beating Kwasi Appiah’s Sudan in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers will be a “real” challenge for Ghana’s National Men’s Football Team.
He said this in the wake of the 2025 AFCON qualification draw that placed Ghana in Group F with Sudan, Angola and Niger. The draw pitches Ghana against former Black Stars player and head coach Kwasi Appiah who won the AFCON in 1982 with Ghana. (Click highlighted text to read full story)
Next year’s AFCON was originally scheduled to run from June to July but will run from December 21, 2025 to January 18, 2026 in Morocco.
Addressing the draw, Otto Addo highlighted the belief his squad has in itself to progress to the competition before commenting on the Kwasi Appiah factor.
“We have Sudan who are really doing well at the moment with Kwasi Appiah who I know personally, very good coach. Not a known squad but like I said they are doing really really well in the (2026) World Cup qualification games. They are tough to beat, it’s going to be a real challenge to beat them…but I’m excited to play against them.”
Under Kwasi Appiah, Sudan lead Group B in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers ahead of the likes of Senegal four games into the qualifiers.
