5G network not for Ghanaian masses- Ursula Owusu reveals
The Minister of Communication and Digitalization, Hon. Ursula Owusu-Ekufful, has revealed that the 5G network, which is yet to roll out in Ghana, is not meant for the masses but rather for specific classes of people.
In an interview with Bernard Avle for Citi FM’s Breakfast Show monitored by Puretvonline.com, she stated that 5G will not be of interest to the majority of Ghanaians, but rather to certain areas like transportation, agriculture, mining, energy, airports, and the rest of the sectors.
Hon. Ursula said, “One of the intriguing details of this deal is that Tech Mahindra and Nokia will be establishing labs to create 5G use cases in Africa, which will benefit the upper class market.”
She underlines that just a few hundred nations worldwide have signed up for the 5G network.
She emphasised that 4G will be used more widely than 5G networks in the mass market.
Her comments follow worries that certain countries implementing 5G are finding it challenging to oversee financial transactions for telcos.
