President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), Ben Nunoo Mensah says he is confident that Ghana’s Men’s 4×100 Relay Team will improve on the baton change phase of its race in the lead up to the 2024 Olympic Games.
He said this in an exclusive interview with Citi Sports in the wake of the team’s qualification to the Paris Olympics by winning Heat 2 at the World Relays Championship in Bahamas.
Despite having no problems with the baton change on Day Two of the World Relays in Bahamas, Ghana missed out on sealing its place in the upcoming Olympics earlier after finishing second in its race at the Penn Relays due to a delayed baton change.
On Day One of the World Relays, Ghana dropped the baton and failed to finish the race on the back of Ghana finishing second at the African Games due to another delayed baton change.
However, the GOC President believes the team will pay attention to the issue and address it stating,
“I am sure that their coaches have seen that weakness in our team and I’m sure they will be working on that. It’s always been a problem not only for this current team but for a while. There must be something and I’m sure that their coaches are up to the task and they should be working on that before we show up at the Olympics.”
The 2024 Olympics starts on July 26 and ends on August 11.
