The Leader and Founder of All People’s Congress, APC, Dr. Hassan Ayariga has highlighted some key policies his party will implement when voted into power as President in the 2024 general election.
Briefing Journalists in Accra, the APC Presidential Hopeful said, the current state of Ghana’s economy requires that deliberate policies are carefully developed to match the demands of the people.
He emphasized that both the New Patriotic Party, NPP and the National Democratic Congress, NDC have failed the country in areas such as the economy, education, jobs, and power generation.
Dr. Ayariga said he would introduce a lockdown economy, and a three-shift system ( 24-hour economy ) among others to drive prosperity to the people.
“Our vision is to transform Ghana into a prosperous and developed nation, where every citizen has access to opportunity and a decent standard of living. Our policies are designed to achieve this vision”.
“Firstly, we will implement an Economic Lockdown to prevent capital flight, grow to consume, and increase productivity, and ensure that, Ghana’s resources benefit Ghanaians. This will help in stabilizing the economy and promote local businesses”.
“Secondly, we will establish a national database to ensure accurate data collection and inform decision-making. This will help in better planning and implementation of better policies”.
“Thirdly, we will develop a national development plan to guide Ghana’s development and ensure sustainable growth. This will provide a roadmap for the country’s progress”
“Furthermore, we will prioritize Ghanian interest first, through our Ghanaian first policy ensuring that our citizens benefit from our nation’s natural resources. This will help in promoting local industry and creating job opportunities for Ghanaians.”
“We also aim to promote a mindset shift from dependency to self-reliance, and entrepreneurship through our mindset change policy. This will empower individuals to charge of their own economic well-being”.
“Additionally, we will establish Ghana as a hub for production, manufacturing, and industry through our production and manufacturing industrial hub policy to create jobs, and drive the economic growth of the country”.
“Moreover, we will implement programs to create more decent jobs for the Ghanaian youth through our Jobs for the Youth policy, which will empower the younger generation to contribute to the nation’s development.”
“We will also introduce the 24-hour economy and the three-shift system to maximize productivity and efficiency in the public sector. This will help to boost the economic growth and create more job opportunities for Ghanaians”.
“Furthermore, we leverage technology to enhance governance, transparency, and accountability through our governance policy”.
“Lastly, we will work towards economic independence by reducing Ghana’s reliance on foreign aid, promoting self-sufficiency”, he said.
Dr. Hassan Ayariga highlighted some critical issues affecting the economy.
He criticized the conduct of the NPP stating, that their policies are not yielding the necessary results for the country.
Dr. Ayariga among other things emphasized that the NPP must focus on completing its eight-year term by prioritizing the needs of the people rather than their mantra of breaking the eight.
Dr. Ayariga suggested some measures that will enable the Cedi to gain strength against the US dollar. He said, his economic lockdown policy would ensure that the country cut down on excessive importation of goods, and rather channel effort to produce more for domestic use.
On the issue of the current unstable power crisis, Dr. Ayariga stressed that, government must consider private partnership to allow the private sector’s involvement in the electricity power generation.
Dr. Ayariga further stated that the APC demands the government develop more strategies aimed at reducing the high cost of living and minimizing the economic hardship the country is experiencing.
He said the government must tackle corruption and ensure accountability at all levels of governance by strengthening anti-corruption institutions and holding people who engage in corrupt practices responsible.
He said the government must also focus on building infrastructure in the education sector, healthcare sector, and sustainable development practices.
The APC shall commence its campaign of the 16 regions from today, 12th June 2024 from Bawku in the Northern Region.
