Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama says he will not scrap the Office of the Special Prosecutor.
Instead, he says he intends to strengthen the office if he is elected as president in the upcoming elections.
Mr Mahama said this when he addressed journalists in Accra on Sunday.
The OSP was established in 2018 as the gold standard and flagship specialized independent anti-corruption institution in Ghana in pursuance of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC).
The OSP has the object of investigating and prosecuting specific cases of alleged or suspected corruption and corruption-related offences in the public and private sectors, recovering the proceeds of such acts by disgorging illicit and unexplained wealth and taking steps to prevent corruption.
Mr Mahama indicated that he had no intentions of scrapping the OSP but putting in measures and resources to strengthen the office.
Meanwhile, he said his administration will “set up an independent value-for-money office to scrutinise all government procurements above a $5 million threshold or as shall be recommended by Parliament.”
