Joining the world to mark International Firefighters’ Day, the Ghana National Fire Service has paid tribute to the selfless sacrifices of firefighters with a memorial service at their headquarters in Accra. The event served as a reminder of their unwavering bravery and dedication to protecting lives and property.

The ceremony was not only to acknowledge the sacrifices of firefighters but also to provide comfort for their families.

It was a moment to honour all firefighters, recognising their tireless efforts in preserving lives and property. As they continue in their work, their dedication remains a beacon of hope for communities worldwide.

Preaching the sermon, the Chaplain, DO II Erzoah Amihere, emphasised that the true impact of firefighters would be evident if officers embraced the mindset of Christ, urging them to adopt and adapt his principles. With the upcoming December 7 elections, he urged officers to strive to become solutions to the challenges facing their generation.

The Chief Fire Officer, Julius Kuunour, stressed the urgency for the government to prioritise firefighters’ needs by establishing a dedicated insurance package and specialised fund. He emphasised that such initiative is crucial to guaranteeing prompt medical care for firefighters injured in their line of duty.

A special coin was laid as a tribute to firefighters who had passed away; the first was laid by the Chief Fire Officer on behalf of the president for the people of Ghana and all former officers . The second was for senior officers, the third was for departed chief fire officers, the fourth was for all fire officers, and the fifth was for all junior officers. The theme for the event was “The contribution of firefighters to safety, National Security and Sustainable Development.”
