Leicester City has officially announced the signing of Ghanaian forward Jordan Ayew from Crystal Palace on a two-year deal. The transfer, valued at £5 million with an additional £3 million in potential add-ons, brings the total fee to £8 million. This move comes despite Ayew recently extending his contract with Crystal Palace until June 2025.
Jordan Ayew’s transfer to Leicester City marks a new chapter in his career. The 32-year-old forward faced challenges in securing consistent game time at Crystal Palace, particularly after the departure of manager Roy Hodgson. Nonetheless, Ayew showcased his playmaking abilities, finishing the season as the Ghanaian player with the second-most assists in the Premier League, with a total of seven, just one behind Mohammed Kudus.
Expressing his excitement about the move, Ayew stated, “I’m very happy to be here, and I’m proud. I want to thank the club, as they fought hard to bring me here—it happened quickly, and I’m so happy to be here. As a player, when you hear that the manager wants you, it just makes you want to come and work under him and to try to improve. Even though I’m 32, as a player you always want to learn and improve. I’m here to work hard and help the team achieve their targets.”
The signing of Ayew is seen as a significant boost for Leicester City, who are eager to solidify their position in the Premier League after their recent promotion. The club’s management and fans are optimistic that Ayew’s experience and skills will contribute positively to the team’s performance.
With Jordan Ayew’s arrival, Leicester City aims to challenge for top positions in the Premier League. The Foxes will be hoping that this key signing will help them not only stay in the topflight but also compete at higher levels, potentially securing a spot in European competitions.
