Some residents of Kpone tagged the ;concerned residents of Kpone; in the Greater Accra Region are demonstrating over the deplorable state of their roads which they claim have been abandoned for years.

The concerned residents consisting of residents of community 25, Prampram, Dawhenya, Devtraco, and associated communities have expressed dissatisfaction about the state of their deplorable roads which have negatively impacted lives and businesses.

According to the group, the appalling condition of the Kpone to Dawhenya road is adversely affecting their businesses, health, and psychological well-being.

Speaking in an interview with the media, the lead organiser of the demonstration, Frana Abay-Wuni, urged the Minister for Roads and Highways to provide a clear explanation for the halt in construction work and demanded immediate action to address the situation.

“The demonstration came about because four years ago, the president cut a sod here to commence the road. We were told that it was 17 kilometers. Thus, from the Kpone roundabout to the stretch of Central University and beyond. But four years after we realized that the job had come to a halt. The contractors are not any more on-site. They come from time to time and do like patching and that’s it. We are not getting any information from them and we are suffering. Our lives are in danger because we spend so much time sitting in traffic to and through.

I wish you could experience it here where you can sit in traffic if you are lucky about three hours just to get out and another three hours to come. Children are, I mean, they are sleeping in the vehicle to go to school. They are sleeping in class and so on. And unfortunately, one of the former MPs who lives in the community 25 here, passed on because they were trying to rush her to the hospital and there was no way they could go through the traffic. And some of these things have been our frustration” She explained.

The residents have threatened to stage several protests if their demands are not attended to immediately.
