Former President and NDC flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, has strongly urged Aflao residents to resist any attempts by security personnel to confiscate their Ghana Cards. His call comes after reports emerged that officers from the Ghana Immigration Service were allegedly seizing these crucial identification cards at the border.
Addressing a gathering in Aflao, Mahama emphasized the importance of standing firm against such actions. He made it clear that only the National Identification Authority has the legal right to withdraw a Ghana Card, urging residents not to surrender their cards under any circumstances.
“Nobody has the right to collect your Ghana card—neither immigration, police, nor any other authority,” Mahama stated. He added that if there are doubts about one’s citizenship, the proper procedure must be followed, involving a formal process through the National Identification Authority. Mahama warned that individuals cannot be judged by their appearance alone and that residents must protect their rights.
