MTN Ghana declares its resolve to foster digital inclusion in Ghana and to connect people

The largest telecommunications operator in Africa, MTN Ghana, has announced its commitment to promoting digital inclusivity, supporting progress, and cultivating human connections throughout Ghana in commemoration of World Telecommunication Day.

With an emphasis on the environment, society, and government, the telecom giant believes that this year’s topic, “Digital Innovation for Sustainable Development,” aligns with their ambitious objective for 2025, which is to lead digital solutions for Ghana’s and Africa’s growth. It shows that innovation, technology, and societal and environmental challenges are realities that cannot be ignored if long-term sustainable socioeconomic progress and prosperity are to be achieved in Africa.

It also highlights how important it is for the telecom industry to take advantage of and harness digital innovation in order to provide innovative services and products, address global issues, encourage socioeconomic empowerment, and broaden digital and financial inclusion.

The institution claims that during the past 30 years, it has played a significant role in driving digital innovation in Ghana and throughout Africa. It is believed that their contributions have been extensive and invaluable, having, among other things, increased economic growth through the use of digital skills and other support programs, enhanced access to healthcare and education, innovated in the fintech and digital economy sectors, promoted strategic partnerships, and made investments in infrastructure.

MTN Ghana asserts that, as an African company, it has paved the way for a more promising digital future with large infrastructural investments, improved communities through cooperative social activities, and led the way with cutting edge technologies.

“Africa’s fintech ecosystem is the engine that will drive its digital revolution and economic development in the coming years,” said Stephen Blewett, CEO of MTN Ghana, during the recent 3i Africa Summit. Fintech can boost local economies and advance the continent in a number of ways, including financial inclusion, innovation and entrepreneurship, job creation, cross-border transactions and payments, digital identity and security, agriculture and rural development, government services, investment and funding, as well as digital and financial literacy.

Furthermore, he believes that these hubs will act as a platform for mentoring and training the next wave of African entrepreneurs by providing them with the resources, environment, and training necessary for success in the digital arena.

Mr. Blewett is calling on African telecom providers to reaffirm their commitment to using digital innovation for sustainable development. By embracing technology as a force for good and exploiting its revolutionary potential, we can collectively determine Africa’s progress.

He went on to say that as the world celebrates the power of connectivity, the promise of technology, and the unity of purpose, it is critical to build a future in which every Ghanaian may prosper in the digital era and to uphold the idea that “everyone deserves the benefit of a modern connected life.”
