MTN launches 2024 SME Month
In order to help SMEs grow their companies and lead the way in promoting digital and financial inclusion, MTN Ghana has announced the commencement of its 2024 Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) Month.
According to Abubakari Sidick Mohammed, Head of SMEs at MTN Business, the telecommunications company believes it’s important to develop solutions that help businesses, especially SMEs, succeed in addition to giving them opportunities to do so. These solutions should also help them stay competitive and sustainable.
It is impossible to overstate MTN’s role in helping firms in Ghana flourish, he says, having spent years carefully investing in the SME ecosystem in a variety of ways.
Themed “Business stands smarter, faster, and better,” the SME Month, which runs throughout July, aims to celebrate SMEs for their contributions to Ghana’s economy and empower SMEs with digital solutions to ensure growth and also to build capacities for SMEs with the rightful skills to succeed in their business’ among others.
He said that the company’s goal of becoming a platform player will help it accelerate digitization, but in order to do so, it must first establish an environment that makes it possible for SMEs to obtain top-notch solutions at competitive prices.
According to Abubakari Sidick Mohammed, “There will be SMEs activations across different locations in Accra and Kumasi, trading sections for selected SMEs, customer appreciation programmes, presentations on our business solutions, exciting product highlights, and quizzes in the weeks leading up to the end of July.” And the cherry on top will be the SME fairs, which will take place in Ghana’s two largest urban areas.
In light of the difficulties SMEs face, he pointed out that in order for them to fully profit from the linked modern world, they must have access to solutions that are reliable, effective, and durable.
He stated that MTN Business is helping SMEs increase their operational efficiency at a reasonable cost by providing SME solutions, which helps close the technological divide.
The Association of Ghana Industries’ (AGI) Greater Accra Chairman, Tsonam Akpeloo, stated that the MTN initiative is extremely strategic for SMEs. Over time, the association discovered that most SMEs lacked digital tools that would enable them to grow their businesses and were unable to maintain records.
According to him, this will make it easier for their members to take part in the agreement on the African Continental Free Trade Area.
Ghana’s economy has grown and developed significantly thanks in large part to SMEs. They make up almost 90% of all enterprises in the nation, according to estimates. In addition, they contribute over 60% of the nation’s GDP and 80% of all jobs.
