NAPO to be unveiled as Bawumia's running mate today in Kumasi
In a much awaited ceremony, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, also known as NAPO, will formally be introduced as the running mate of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, on Tuesday, July 9.
The New Patriotic Party’s historic bastion of Kumasi, the capital of the Ashanti Region, will host the announcement of NAPO as Dr. Bawumia’s running partner. The NPP’s Ashanti Regional Organiser, Francis Adomako, said the area is excitedly anticipating the occasion.
The National Council of the NPP formally approved NAPO as Dr. Bawumia’s running partner on Friday, July 5.
Top party officials, including President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, have praised the choice widely and voiced confidence in the pair’s abilities to lead the party to victory in the general elections in 2024.
In a statement, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh conveyed his sincere appreciation to Dr. Bawumia for assigning him the role of running mate. In order to guarantee the party wins the next elections with a landslide, NAPO vowed to work tirelessly in tandem with Dr. Bawumia.
In addition, the New Patriotic Party has formally begun accepting nominations for the Manhyia South seat in the wake of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh’s promotion as running mate.
As a result, Parliament has not yet formally declared that the Manhyia South parliamentary seat is vacant.
The party stressed that this is an internal matter and advised potential candidates to be careful with their words. It also promised a free and fair electoral process.
According to reports, Nana Owusu Afriyie Prempeh, NAPO’s brother, is running for the same parliamentary seat, which could lead to a family feud in politics.
With Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO) of the New Patriotic Party running against the National Democratic Congress (NDC) ticket of Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang and former President John Dramani Mahama, the stage is set for a hotly contested presidential election in 2024.
