NIA suspends strike

The National Identification Authority (NIA) has announced its decision to suspend the indefinite strike that was declared on June 10, 2024.

This suspension is subject to the results of the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) discussions, which are set to take place on Friday, June 14, 2024.

This decision comes after a number of interventions from stakeholders, such as the National Security Minister, the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission inviting parties to negotiations on June 14, 2024, the mother union’s advice based on the National Labour Commission’s decision, and a public outcry from worried Ghanaians.

The Fair Wages and Salaries Commission has guaranteed the NIA that they will negotiate in good faith, the organisation said in a statement.

However, the union has made it clear that they will not hesitate to resume their industrial action should the government fail to live up to their expectations of providing institution-specific allowances by the end of negotiations on Friday.

For the interest of maintaining workplace unity, the union has advised the government and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission to reach a favourable conclusion.

On Thursday, June 13, 2024, union members are advised to report to work and perform their tasks in a professional manner.

The union’s leadership has expressed gratitude to its members for their unity and acknowledged the strike action’s substantial impact.

They have also thanked the public for their interest in the issue and the media for their ongoing coverage.
