Woman charged over video ‘showing prison officer having sex with inmate in cell’
Following the viral video on social media that purportedly showed a prison guard having sex with a prisoner in a cell, a woman is scheduled to appear in court.
The Metropolitan Police announced that Linda De Sousa Abreu, 30, of Fulham, southwest London, has been charged with misconduct in public service.
She is being held and is scheduled to appear in Uxbridge magistrates court on Monday.
Officers were notified of a video purportedly shot within HMP Wandsworth, and on Friday they opened an inquiry. Later that day, an arrest was made, and De Sousa Abreu was charged on Saturday, according to the police.
The time of the footage’s filming—which at first seemed to show an officer in full uniform—is unknown.
Less than two months had passed since the arrest, in which the prisons watchdog had sent an urgent notice for improvements at the institution to Alex Chalk, the justice secretary.
Chief prison inspector Charlie Taylor called the results of a recent inspection “deeply concerning,” citing staff’s inability to “accurately account for their prisoners during the working day” and “chaotic” prison wings. Katie Price, the prison governor, tendered her resignation during the inspection.
