Speaking to the media at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra on Sunday, 25th August 2024, Vice President and the flag bearer of the NPP, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, elaborated on his vision to construct six new stadia, adding to the five already built, instead of focussing on renovating existing ones.

Reflecting on his recent meeting with the Black Stars in Kumasi, he noted that both the coach and players expressed a dire need for international standard pitches. “The pitches that we have are difficult to play on, and we needed international standard pitches,” he emphasised.

Dr. Bawumia also revisited a commitment made by his government back in 2019 to build stadiums for the new regions, as he believes that creating these facilities will encourage sports and foster community development.

“With all these new regions that are coming on board, we will have to build stadiums for them to encourage sports,” Dr. Bawumia stated.

He further noted that of the ten planned multi-purpose sports stadiums, six have been completed and four are nearing completion. This track record, he suggested, demonstrates the feasibility of adding five more stadiums to the nation’s sports infrastructure.

“The record is there that we’ve done ten. I think that we can do another five without much of a problem,” he asserted.
