Head coach of Ghana’s National Women’s Football Team, (Black Queens), Nora Hauptle, has praised the exploits of Black Stars goalkeeper Cynthia Konlan despite the shot stopper conceding four goals in Ghana’s latest outings.
Ghana lost 4-0 to Japan in an international friendly game played over the weekend that had the Black Queens hold on to a goalless first half draw but collapse in the second half conceding three goals from set pieces.
Even in the face of suffering a hammering to the seventh ranked nation in the world, the Swedish trainer praised Konlan for pulling off a string of brilliant saves in a postgame interview.
“We defended with determination, with passion, we closed the centre. I think our keeper was outstanding. In the end, we need to acknowledge to play an hour against Japan with 10 players, the quality is higher, so all in all I’m okay about the mentality shown and how we took the challenge.”
Ghana lost defender Portia Boakye in the 23rd minute to a straight red card that Hauptle expressed her disapproval over while reflecting the impact of the veteran defender’s loss. (Click highlighted text to read full story)
