Southampton manager Russell Martin has bemoaned the profligacy of Ghanaian international Kamaldeen Sulemana in front of goal.

He admonished the winger’s finishing woes in Southampton’s fifth round FA Cup 3-0 loss to Liverpool at Anfield; Southampton missed out on progressing to the quarterfinals.

Sulemana started for the first time after returning from a significant injury that forced him to miss Ghana’s campaign at the 2023 AFCON in Cote D’Ivoire due to the injury and has made a handful of appearances off the bench since his return.

However, he missed a couple of chances at Anfield and his manager was quick to point it out to the Daily Echo despite his fine performance in 58 minutes.

“I thought he was great, but he should score. The next step for Kamaldeen is getting things right in the final third. Even when he had a run of games before he got injured he only got three assists.”

“He has a lot of moments that should lead to more – he knows that. He is so talented. I thought he was great against Liverpool. He was so disciplined in his position and did a good job out of possession for the team. He had some amazing moments with the ball.”
