Secretary and Welfare Officer of the Accra Sports Stadium Disaster Trust Fund, Christopher Annan, says the trust fund has delivered on its duties.
He said the fund has overly delivered on ensuring that children of the May 9 Stadium Disaster have completed at least the Senior High School education.
The Accra Sports Stadium Disaster Trust Fund administrator said this in an interview during the commemorative event of the disaster that claimed the lives of over 120 people who died during the stampede triggered at a game between rivals Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko in 2001.
“Our focus was on children of the deceased that was what the mandate of the deed said that we should look after the children of the deceased from crèche to senior high school. The trust has been able to discharge that duty excellently.”
“That trust realized that some of the children were doing very well (in school) so the trust decided to let them continue to the tertiary level.”
This year’s commemorative event was witnessed by Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif and Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku.
