Timing of COP Tetteh Yohuno’s appointment wrong—Adam Bonna

Security expert Adam Bonna has expressed concerns over the timing of COP Tetteh Yohuno’s appointment as Deputy Inspector General of Police (IGP) in Charge of Operations, despite acknowledging Yohuno’s qualifications and professional integrity.

Bonna’s remarks come amidst growing speculation that the government intends to replace IGP George Akuffo-Dampare with COP Yohuno before the 2024 general elections.

In a phone interview on the Hot FM Morning Show, monitored by PuretvOnline.com, Bonna highlighted that while COP Yohuno is a capable and professional officer, the current political climate makes his appointment problematic.

“There are tensions in the country already, and bringing in such an appointment will cause suspicions and chaos,” Bonna said. He emphasised that Yohuno would not undermine IGP Dampare but cautioned that the move could be perceived as an attempt by the president to influence the police leadership ahead of the elections.

Despite his concerns about the timing, Bonna congratulated COP Yohuno on his new role, expressing confidence in his ability to uphold the procedures and standards of the police service.

Bonna’s comments reflect broader anxieties about potential political interference in Ghana’s security apparatus as the nation approaches a critical election period.
