Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Usyk had Tyson Fury on the wrong side as he blew him off with a split decision to become the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world. The Ukrainian becomes the first boxer to clinch the title since Lennox Lewis did in 1999 after defeating Evander Holyfield.
Oleksandr Usyk oppressed Fury in some formidable fashion as he landed some heavy punches on the British boxer in the ninth round. His impressive display saw fury linger around as he received a standing count. Usyk was utterly dominant throughout the bout as he added the WBC title to his WBA, IBF, and WBO belts with scores of 115-112, 113-114, and 114-113.
Fury at the start of the bout showed some promising signs of taking the fight to Usyk, but he eventually saw himself packing down along the line as the fight progressed to its decisive stage. The two boxers had everything on the ropes as they fought to be the new undisputed world heavyweight champion since it was won in 1999 by Lennox Lewis.
The Ukrainian boxer, after breaking the 25-year record to become the new undisputed champion of the world, would have a huge task of now defending the title as he seeks to surpass his predecessor’s record of being the undisputed champion of the world for 25 years.
