The two biggest traditional clubs in the Ghanaian Premier League, Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko will square it off in the maiden Democracy Cup organized by the Parliament of Ghana.

The Democracy Cup forms part of activities instituted by Parliament as part of its roadmaps in commemorating 30 years of uninterrupted parliamentary democracy in Ghana, which began last year under the theme, “30 Years of Parliamentary Democracy Under the 4th Republic: The Journey Thus Far.

According to organizers of the event which will be launched on Thursday June 13, 2024, the winner of the maiden match will be playing against American Major League Soccer side, DC United later in the year. The game with DC United will be played in Washington.

Currently, Accra Hearts of Oak lies just a breath away from relegation in the ongoing Ghana Premier League while their arch rivals, Kotoko is managing their way out from the bottom stands of the league table. This game will afford them some morale boosting as their fans seems to be getting weary of the shambles they find themselves in this season.

The Democracy Cup game which will take place at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, July 5, 2024, will also witness a special curtain raiser game between Members of Parliament and former Black Stars players.
